At Eroica Britannia we're all about cycling! Can you tell us about the first bike you owned?

Raleigh Commando Star. All the other kids were getting early BMX's and I felt left out so I removed the mudguards and chain guard and pretended.....

Can you tell us about a memorable bike ride or cycling related story?

Most memorable was when we were asked to do the pre-race parade down the finishing straight at the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix. We were at the very front - with just two men carrying a banner in front and a couple of hundred performers and musicians behind. The pace was just a bit too slow so we were attempting a slow race riding 6ft high bikes wearing stilts in front of camera crews from around the world and all the people in the grandstands knowing that if a foot went down I would never get the momentum to restart. Quite surreal as bike rides go! I also used to ride cycle rickshaws in York when there were just pedicabs there and in Brighton - none in London at all. I help on elf the UK's first cycle rickshaw licenses. they wanted us to pass a test but one didn't exist so they made one up.

What are your top 3 festival essentials that you always pack?

My own toilet, my own shower, my own bed.

Your soundtrack of the summer?

Calexico - Carried to Dust, Americana meets Mexicana, Instant Sunshine.

What’s your greatest adventure to date?

Performing at an Arts Festival in Palestine. Participating in a parade from Manger Square to Star Square where a stage was put up. Drinking beer with locals and other performers. Visiting a theatre and an arts centre in the refugee camps.

You’re enjoying a picnic on a summer’s day what favourites are in your picnic box?

Scotch Eggs.

Eroica Britannia are known for their stylish customers who are your style icons?

I would have to say Richard Hawley a touch of 50's throwback sublime musicianship and an honest and down to earth Yorkshire character. And Mister Keith of course.

Favourite ice-cream flavour and topping?

Honeycomb. Though I had a lovely raspberry pavlova yesterday.

Favourite thing that gets you excited for summer?

Visiting Bournemouth as we do Easter or early most years and imagining the place busy in the summer. Getting our Glastonbury tickets through the post (I perform there most years) and when the lido opens in Cheltenham - there is nowhere better on a summer's day that isn't the seaside!

Favourite summer tipple?

Good quality cider. Perhaps a Dunkertons organic. Or a Severn Cider from a small brewery in Gloucestershire.

If you could ride on the back of anyone's bike who would it be and why?

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis could probably tell some good stories. He would look great in his shorts and beard too.

Have you ever visited the Peak District before?

I grew up near Clay Cross right on the edge of the Peak District. At primary school I was often cycling to Ashover and beyond. At secondary school we would cycle off round Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock, and Monsal Head. May family were bus drivers based in Baslow and Darley Dale so I saw a lot of that area.

What are you most looking forward to at Eroica Britannia?

Entertaining all ages hopefully bringing something a little bit different with my mixture of cycles circus tricks comedy characters and interaction.
